Hi, I’m Michelle, proud founder and front-woman for Savings and Sangria!
Want to learn how to become a Saver?
I’ve been a saver since I was around 8 years old thanks to my mom and dad. With my $2 allowance every Saturday, my parents insisted I deposit 10% in my savings account. 20 cents may not sound like a lot of money 😉 but it instilled the saving habit.
When I started making the big bucks ($5.15 PER HOUR!) working at a video rental store in high school, I kept saving 10% of every paycheck. And let me tell you, I was so glad I did because that money saved my tush when I was paying for college text books.
I’ve got a million tips and tricks for savings, and I’m excited to share them all with you!
Go from Saving to Investing
I was introduced to investing early because my grandma was a big believer in savings bonds, and my dad was a stock broker.
Saving isn’t enough. You need to invest your savings to make a real difference in your net worth, and you need to grow your net worth so you can afford to take advantage of the incredible experiences this planet has to offer! Oh, and to not starve to death during retirement.
Investing is awesome, and it doesn’t need to be difficult. If you’re nervous about (or just not interested in) investing, I can walk you through some basic strategies to generate a slow-but-steady growth that requires very little time or energy to maintain.
If you’re excited about investing, me too! I’ve got a 401(k), IRA, mutual funds, index funds, plain ol’ stocks, and rental properties, and we’ll have a great time discussing investment strategy.
Add some Sangria!
A good glass of Sangria makes everything more fun. It just does.
I’m picturing a group of brilliant young women gathered over a pitcher, supporting each other to plan for savings and investing, keeping each other accountable to ensure success, and cheering each other on to make finance fun!
Final Notes About Me
My wonderful husband-of-14-years is in video game design, so we move quite a lot. We’re both from a middle-of-the-cornfields town in Illinois. We’ve lived in Lake Havasu City, AZ, all over San Diego and Los Angeles, Chicago, and currently live in Frankfurt, Germany. And our Beagle, Peanut, begrudgingly makes every move with us.
I’ve been in real estate my entire adult life: executive suite leasing, property management, investment portfolios, and property tax consulting. I have an M.B.A. in Management and Strategy, with a concentration in accounting. And I’ve recently traded in my corporate life to blog and write full-time.
I like my wine sweet, my books hardcover, and my retirement accounts maxed out!
And I believe in Oxford Commas.
Thanks for stopping by to get to know me better. Can’t wait to hear about you!
