Make It Through the Summer With Your Finances Intact
Summer is a time when we all want to be outside as much as we can, having a good time, and all around enjoying all that the season brings.
But there’s a problem: more often than not, we end summer with our finances in tatters.
With so many exciting things to do and plenty of socializing opportunities, it’s easy to fall into the trap of doing more damage to your bank account than originally intended. Here’s how to avoid the end-of-summer-money-slump.
Go Easy On the Vacation
Yes, it’s always enjoyable to pack up and break up the routine of the every day, but be careful: vacations can be expensive!
And here’s the thing about summer – you really don’t need to take a complicated, expensive trip to have a good time. You’ll likely have as much fun, if not more, by going on a camping trip into the great outdoors as you would rolling up to a five-star hotel.
And what’s more, it’ll cost a fraction of the price. So when it comes to your vacation, don’t go overboard. It’s not necessary.
The Simple Pleasures
You could spend every night doing something exciting, but it’ll drain that bank account like nothing else. During summer, keep things simple – your bank balance will thank you for it.
Instead of having expensive drinks at a swanky rooftop bar, stay in your own yard. It’s just as enjoyable to spend long hours with friends and family, chatting under a setting sun, as it is getting all dressed up and hitting the bars.
So make the most of the simple pleasures, because they’re the ones that’ll ensure you make it through the summer in a financially healthy state.
Protecting Against the Dangers
Alas, there’s a dangerous part of summer too, which can affect your finances in a big way. We’re talking about the threats to the home and drink drivers.
For your home, make sure it’s fully protected against the threat of floods and your insurance is extensive enough to cover the damage should it happen.
As drink driving is more likely during the summer months, there’s an added risk of suffering an injury due to the actions of others. If it happens, work with Hughey Law Firm to get the compensation that you deserve.
You can’t always prevent bad things from happening, but can prevent them from having too much of a negative impact.
Saying No To Freewheelin’ Summer
Spontaneity is a fun part of summer, but you shouldn’t lose sight of your financial objectives. While you might be inclined to say “YES!” to every opportunity, if you do, you’ll end up spending more money than you originally planned to.
Reign it in, and before saying yes, make sure that whatever it is fits in with your summer budget.
You should be trying to save all year round, not just the summer, and especially so because fall and winter can bring their own expenses. Stay smart, stay frugal!
